Good Guitar Habits

Hello Reader,

How's your guitar progress going? During my own practice this morning I was thinking about progress and how it ebbs and flows in small increments over time.

I happened to be reading a new book "Atomic Habits" on this exact topic. I pulled a quote that I think applies quite well to music and specifically guitar progress in general.

“We often expect progress to be linear. At the very least, we hope it will come quickly. In reality, the results of our efforts are often delayed. It is not until months or years later that we realize the true value of the work we have done. This can result in a "valley of disappointment" where people feel discouraged after putting in weeks or months of hard work without experiencing any results. However, this work was not wasted. It was simply being stored. It is not until much later that the full value of previous efforts is revealed.”

I think this is why a lot of people either quit playing guitar, or just get stuck in a rut. I've always told my own students, it's better to do a little each day than cram for hours on a Saturday.

Small increments, regular good habits, and creating a routine YOU can stick with.
